By Shelley Lockwood
It's funny...when I'm writing these things sometimes the strangest soundtracks play in my mind. What? It's never happened to you?

1. Business opportunities
2. Bulk e-mail :) yippers that says bulk e-mail
3. Chain letters
4. Work-at-home schemes
5. Health and diet scams
6. Effortless income
7. Free goods
8. Investment opportunities
9. Cable descrambler kits
10. Guaranteed loans or credit, on easy terms
11. Credit repair
12. Vacation prize promotions
Answer: Business opportunities, Chainletters, Work-at-home schemes, Effortless Income, Investment Opportunities
Five out of twelve are get rich quick; money making scams and they made the top 10!
These opportunity touting e-mails shoot straight for our hopes, play on our fears and create a sense of urgency that makes us desperate to give them our money.
The business opportunities promise high incomes for very little work. Not only are the numbers bogus, scores of them are actually promoting illegal pyramid schemes.
Chainletters no matter the dollar amount or what new spin they've put on them they are flat out illegal.
The work at home schemes are usually envelope stuffing, some type of home assembly or medical billing. One of two things happens you either waste money buying supplies to assemble a finished product they'll never buy or there isn't really any work. Just information explaining how to make money getting others to buy into the scheme.
Effortless income? There's just no such thing.
Investment opportunities flaunting risk free high returns on your short-term investment. Often the first investment will bring the promised return. The catch? That return actually comes from subsequent investors not from any real profits. Trust is built and many will re-invest higher amounts. The investment is lost when the originator bolts with the money, gets busted for fraud or new investors stop coming on board. Often referred to as a Ponzi scheme (Mr. Ponzi being the inventor) it is fraudulent thus illegal.
Besides let's stick with our Spam rule.....if it arrives via Spam it's definitely a SCAM!
Take care,
Shelley
